At the Tiny Paws Rescue, hearts ached for a frightened blind and deaf senior dog left tied to a park bench in New Jersey with a heartbreaking note asking someone to “please take me and love me.”
According to the rescue organization’s director, Kim Astriner, they had received a phone call from a Good Samaritan who found the dog tied to a park bench, and alongside of her was a short pink piece of paper from her owner asking for someone to help the dog.
Upon arrival, Sheba was scared and spent hours huddled in a corner, unsure of her surroundings. With gentle patience, she’s starting to relax, enjoying her meals and even a much-needed bath. Though her fur was matted and her skin irritated, we could see how much better she felt afterward.
Sheba hasn’t had the best of care in her previous life, and little is known about her past. Her veterinary examination revealed her coat was matted, she has severe dental disease and also suffers from an underactive thyroid. She has since been prescribed medication. She is loving her new foster home. She is deaf and has very limited vision.
It is unknown why her previous owner abandoned her; it is against the law to abandon pets.
Sheba is exploring her new home and making friends with other dogs. While she’s still hesitant about being picked up, she’s open to soft pets and may become more comfortable with handling as she gains confidence.
