Three-month-old puppy with multiple skull fractures found hiding under home still wagging his tail

Admin

There is little argument that humans don’t deserve dogs – check out Charlie’s story, and see what you think. In Madisonville, Texas, a three-month-old puppy had been reported to animal control on Wednesday after he ran under someone’s house. Initially, the shelter personnel thought he had been attacked by another dog as he had been showing obvious head trauma with a long trail of blood.

No one is really sure what happened to Charlie (as he has now been named), but ThisIsHouston stepped right up and offered to help. The shelter wiped away his blood, and the little guy was quickly transported into town to the organization’s veterinary emergency services hospital to evaluate the puppy’s serious and extremely painful injuries.

Charlie remains hospitalized at the emergency veterinary hospital.

When he first arrived, he was quite dull, but he was wagging his tail and lifting his head up. He had an extremely swollen belly and fecal results showed an infestation of hookworms. Hookworms cause anemia and in puppies, anemia can be deadly if left untreated. Charlies was severely anemic with a PCV of 12% and needed an immediate blood transfusion.

Charlie’s head x-rays revealed he had multiple small skull fractures, however it is not known how these injuries happened. There were no puncture wounds on his face or head, and it is likely no one will ever known if someone hurt the 12-pound puppy with their hands or if he had been struck by a car.

Fortunately, surgery will not be needed at this time, but the radiologist’s report is still pending.

Charlie need not worry about anyone harming him again. Yesterday was the first day of the rest of his life that rescuers promise to be the best they can provide. All reports as on today, tell us Charlie is feeling a lot better.
