Moose stuck on fence in Connecticut rescued by fire department using ‘jaws of life’

Admin

In Barkhamsted, Connecticut, a young bull moose, likely searching out the area for a female companion, got stuck on a fence when he unsuccessfully tried to jump a fence at a nearby reservoir.

… Wardens were called out around midnight last night for the report of a moose stuck on a fence in Barkhamsted. At face value it appears the moose is impaled by the fence but in reality he’s just stuck unable to get his rear legs over and his belly kept him from going backwards.

Facebook Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department

According to the Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department, the moose was tall enough that the fence posts did not impale him or even pierce his tough hide. The moose remained calm and probably knew he was being rescued.

A multi agency response including this department and CT DEEP and CSP freed the moose unharmed. For a few moments, the moose regained his integrity and slowly walked away. The section of fence he was hung up on was cut away with the Hurst cutter [aka the “Jaws of Life”] from Pleasant Valley FD Rescue 3.

It is not known what happened to this boy’s other antler.
