Ventura County, CA – On Saturday morning, a fire broke out at a shopping plaza in Simi Valley. One of the businesses, a pet resort, had more than a dozen dogs inside who were at risk from the billowing smoke.

According to the Ventura County Fire Department, a total of 18 dogs were rescued from the Simi Valley Pet Resort. In a Tweet, the department stated:

fire has been knocked down with no injuries to people or dogs. 18 dogs were rescued and owners are being contacted. Most damage is in the one business with minor damage to adjoining businesses. The cause is under investigation.

On October 2, the pet resort alerted Facebook followers that their business is temporarily closed and explained what happened:

On the morning of 10/01/2022 @aquariumconnect located two doors down from us, had a fire inside their facility. @svnonprofitspayneuter between them and us sustained damage as well. The Ventura County Fire Department responded quickly and in great numbers to keep the fire from spreading to the whole shopping center. Our staff with the help of @svnonprofitspayneuter and local residents, safely evacuated all dogs that were at the facility.

We are eternally grateful for our wonderful staff and community members.

The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation. Nobody was injured in the fire, but multiple businesses were damaged. The outcome of Saturday’s fire is much different than the blaze that claimed the lives of 17 cats who were at a boarding facility in Culver City, California, last month. The fire at Cat Place LA killed most of the cats who were boarded there and injured one fire fighter.
