At the Greenville Humane Society in South Carolina, the children of the family who surrendered their dog, sent a heartbreaking note and pictures showing the love they had for their canine pal.
Surely, the children had a hard time giving up their dog; the kids had drawn pictures of their dog, Rhoudy and left notes. “We love you Rhoudy,” one of the notes said.
The volunteers and staff felt the children’s emotional pain, and in a long shot that the kids would see their response, wanted to reassure them, Rhoudy was going to be okay:
To Rhoudy’s Previous Kids:
We got your note. We know how hard it was to say goodbye. But you were so brave and so strong. Sometimes hard decisions have to be made, but he knows how much you love him.
The note continued:
He’s doing so good. He’s gone for lots of walks and has all of the toys you brought him in his bed. He’s being given so much love. Yes, he misses you. But he will always love you. Don’t you ever forget that, OK?
And then the shelter reassured the children that Rhoudy would find a new home and be loved as much as they loved him:
And you were right in your letter. He is going home. He will find a person to love him just as much as you do. That’s a promise we will make to you. Just promise that you will always love him. Promise that you’ll always remember the happy times you had with him. Because those are so important.
And then the most heartwarming part of the note:
So, dry those tears. And put that smile back on your face. Because we’ve got you. We’ve got Rhoudy. And we promise, with everything we have, to give Rhoudy all the love you did during his time with you. We promise to find him a home that will love him just as much as you do. We know it’s hard. But we’ve got you. We promise.

Many thanks for the rescue organization for your compassion. As one commenter stated, it would be amazing if whoever adopts Rhoudy would allow the kids to maintain a relationship with him. He was clearly loved!

Hi there, my name’s Rhoudy and I’m a happy-go-lucky pup looking for my forever home! I’m a sweet boy who loves nothing more than being around people and getting lots of attention and affection. I’m a bit of a rough and tumble kind of guy and I love to play and rough house with other dogs. I’ve lived with children before and I was great with them – I just love having playmates! I’m looking for a family who will give me lots of love and attention, and who will keep me active and engaged. I’d love to go on long walks and explore new places with my family. If you’re looking for a loyal and fun-loving companion, I’m your guy! Let’s meet and see if we’re a match made in heaven!
I have already been examined by a GHS Veterinarian!
