At the Friends of RSPCA York Animals, we meet Charlie, a two-year-old greyhound who entered the shelter after his previous owner could no longer keep him. Although Charlie is very shy when he first encounters strangers, once he gets used to someone, he warms right up.
We can all understand after 206 days that Charlie has become quite disappointed that no one wants to give him a loving home. And so, to bring attention to this sad dog’s plight, one of the staff volunteers helped Charlie write his latest entry in his diary.
Dear Diary,
Today is my 206th day in kennels. It has been a day like any other, I have spent all day and all night dreaming of a loving home. I LOVE lying on the sofa and running around in the garden. I have so much love to give, why can’t I find a home?
I don’t like kennels, I struggle to eat and I no longer enjoy things I used to, like my toys or walks. I have wished on every star in the night sky but no one has come for me yet.
I really hope I find a forever home soon!
Love, Charlie

And so Charlie’s dream story went viral, and his story has brought considerable interest. This sweet guy will need a family who allows Charlie to become accustomed to his new surroundings at his own pace; he does not like to be crowded and gets very apprehensive if he is handled too much.
Experience dogs owners only, since an experienced family will need to know how to handle him when meeting new people in strange surroundings. BUT – once a family has gained Charlie’s trust, he will be a super pal – a loving companion and a playful friend – when he feels like it that is.
Charlie will need an adult only home, he is suitable to live with another dog after a successful introduction at the adoption center.
