Jayden Makell Harris, 17, was arrested on Thursday by the Tampa Police Department and has been charged with multiple felony charges related to an armed robbery attempt where he shot two small dogs – killing one.
According to the Facebook page for the Tampa Police Department, a man had been walking his two dachshunds at about 7:00 p.m. on October 28, when the suspect approached him from behind. Harris is alleged to have pointed a gun at the man and demanded money. During the course of the robbery, Harris fired multiple shots hitting both dogs.
In fear for his life, the victim picked up both dogs and ran away. The suspect chased the man firing two more shots while in pursuit of his victim.
Fortunately, the victim was able to elude the gunshots, but when he returned home discovered one of his dogs had been badly injured. The dog was rushed to the veterinarian where he died as a result of the gunshots.
Through surveillance videos and excellent investigative work, police had a composite sketch of the suspect, and detectives were able to identify Harris and the black Volkswagen Tiguan SUV he had been riding in before and after the shooting incident. The victim identified Harris as the shooter.
Rest in peace little pup.
