In Nairobi, Kenya, a television journalist met up with a young elephant who insisted on being part of the news one recent afternoon. Alvin Kaunda had been at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an animal rescue organization specializing in helping and raising orphaned elephants until they are old enough to be freed back into the wild, when one of the babies took a special liking to the handsome reporter.
Alvin had been reporting on the terrible drought affecting the wildlife population in Kenya, while baby Kindani wasn’t interested in any bad news. She happened to have been standing behind the reporter, had been giving him the eye, and used her trunk to nuzzle him. Trying very hard to maintain his professionalism, Alvin kept speaking, but the calf’s trunk crept playfully in front of the man’s face. And then came the moment when Alvin burst out in laughter!
