Deputies rescue 14 dogs from burning camper

Mesa County, CO – On Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies in Mesa County broke out the windows of a camper burning in a parking lot in Clifton. According to a news release from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and fire officials were dispatched to the burning camper trailer in the Murdoch’s / Denny’s parking lot.

Rescuers could hear multiple dogs screaming in pain and fear from inside the trailer, and observed smoke pouring from the interior. The release states:

Deputies immediately took action to rescue the 14 dogs locked inside the trailer. Four of the dogs were provided oxygen by firefighters and transported to an emergency veterinarian for treatment.

According to comments on the Sheriff’s Office social media page, one of the dogs ran from the scene and has not been located. There is a comment indicating that one of the dogs did not survive the fire, but that has not been officially confirmed. No word on whether or not the owner will be charged or regain custody of the dogs who were saved.

One deputy suffered a burn on his hand and was treated on scene by paramedics.
