In Louisville, Kentucky, a one-year-old German shepherd certainly is living up to his name “Magic.” On Monday, the dog had been reported roaming the neighborhood loose; someone had shot him in the head, according to Louisville Metro Animal Services.

We got a call from a citizen that a dog had been running loose and got shot. An ACO picked him up; we had to take him straight to Jefferson Animal Hospital for emergency treatment. Then he came here.

When officers tracked the dog, they found out his named was “Magic” – really how amazing was that? And this dog is definitely living up to his name. On Friday, Magic was stable enough to be transferred to the Kentucky Humane Society where he will be undergoing surgery as soon as he is strong enough.

He is reported to be a very sweet dog and is doing well. Dr. Bewley sedated him on Friday to examine his gunshot wound which entered above his right eye, traveled through his nasal cavity and to the roof of his mouth. It broke through the side of his tongue before breaking and cracking his lower jaw and exited through the bottom of his chin.

At this time, veterinarians are concentrating on pain management and working together to determine the extent of the surgery needed.

He is just the sweetest dog and has stolen the hearts of everyone at the shelter. He has a long road ahead of him, but with your help, we’ll be with him every step of the way!
