In Chattanooga, Tennessee, Lilo arrived at the McKamey Animal Center on Sunday after a Good Samaritan found her wandering with her leash still attached. A heartbreaking note had been attached to her collar. And while many do understand why Lilo’s mom did what she did, more people have asked why didn’t she come to the rescue organization and ask for help instead of abandoning a dog that surely must have meant so much to her?
My name is Lilo. Please love me. My mom can’t keep me and is homeless with 2 kids. She tried her best but can’t get help. I cost too much for her. She really loves me and I am a great dog and love to be loved on. Please don’t abuse me.

In a public post on their Facebook page, entitled “A Note to Lilo’s Mom,” the heartbroken staff responded and wanted the woman to know that Lilo will be receiving the best of care.
She will be loved by our staff and volunteers. We will keep her name, and we promise you we will do our best to find her a wonderful new home…
The staff however is hoping the woman will return to reclaim Lilo, telling her the dog’s needs will be covered without any cost to her.
Lilo definitely misses you, and we would like nothing more than to see her go back to the family she loves. Either way, please know that we understand, we will not judge, and we are here to help in any way we can.
The McKamey Animal Center not only offers a pet food pantry for those in need, but will provide vaccines, microchips and spay/neuter services at low or no costs.
The community is asked to reach out and donate to emergency care funds like MAC’s Angel Fund and help to spread the news about free services for those who need help caring and keeping their beloved pets.

As for Lilo, if she is not reclaimed she will be available in a few weeks, most likely! She will need to be vetted and go through the sheltering system after her stray hold is up.
