Shepherd in Las Vegas found in ditch with broken bones and rocks in stomach showing improvement

Admin

In Las Vegas, earlier this week, rescuers from A Home 4 Spot Animal Rescue, were notified by a Good Samaritan that an injured German shepherd had been found lying in a ditch, but no one was unable to find help. A foster parent from the rescue organization quickly reacted and rushed to the location.

When the rescuer arrived, she realized the dog’s injuries were much worse than initially thought. The critically injured dog was rushed to the organization’s partner veterinarian, and it took three people to move the dog into the examining room because of his extensive injuries.

He would scream in pain with every movement but was also giving kisses to our volunteer who was comforting him thru it all. After xrays were completed, the vet gave us the shocking news that Duke has multiple pelvic fractures, fracture legs and a stomach full of rocks 💔 He does have some mild abrasions on one of his inner legs so we’re unsure if this is the result of a hit by car or intentional cruelty, however we do know he was left in a ditch and clearly eating rocks around him to survive.

The dog has been named Duke. This week he underwent surgery where veterinarians removed rocks in his stomach. It is not known how the rocks got into the dog’s stomach, but a cloth material in his stomach was also removed.

Additional X-rays on his lower legs were done; although no femur fractures were noted originally, he still wasn’t able to put any weight on that leg. It is not known if Duke will need further surgery on his leg.

Check out the video of Duke back on his feet. It is expected he will be recovering for the next five months, but he sure wants to get better:

The vet has estimated it will cost around $5,000 to treat him not counting neuter, vaccines or any rehab that is needed down the road.
