A dog limping down the road in Travelers Best, South Carolina was rescued by a Good Samaritan on Thursday. The miracle, and yes that what it had to have been, was saved by a kindhearted woman who had just decided to sit outside on her porch and listen to the rain.
According to the Carolina Loving Hound Rescue, the woman had been quietly sitting outside when she noticed a dog limping down the road in the pouring rain. The concerned woman ran out to the dog’s rescue and rushed him to an emergency veterinary hospital to find out if the dog had been microchipped.
Indeed, the dog had a microchip; his name is Nugget, he is 16-years-old, he lived in New Mexico, and most amazing of all – Nugget has been MISSING from his home since 2012. Fortunately, the name, address and the phone number of the owner was still active on the microchip.
Nugget’s mom has been found!
At this time, it is not known how Nugget came to be in South Carolina or who has been caring for him. At this time, Nugget is in need of a good bath, full exam and blood work. He appears to have an ear infection and is eating soft food only. A full examination is scheduled for Nugget today.
He was his mom’s (in her words) ride or die. He rode horses, drove with her in the truck, went to rodeos, was kicked by a horse and survived being shot. He was and is her heart. She spent years looking for him.
The Carolina Loving Hound Rescue is flying Nugget’s mom to Greenville to reunite with her dog.
Let’s hope we can learn what happened with Nugget. We urge everyone to make sure to get your pet microchipped. Although we do not know what occurred during these last seven years – we do know this – Nugget gets to be reunited with his mom.
To help with Nugget’s veterinary care and his mom coming to be reunited with her dog, donations are appreciated:

All of us have travelled and most of us microchip our dogs. This dog should have never been removed from NM to begin with if the finder would have scanned for the chip 7 years ago. Let’s help make this right and let’s help REUNITE mom and her baby!
