A few very unique TikTok videos have gone viral and made quite an impression on social media, showing an Oklahoma chiropractor making adjustments to the head and jaw of a very friendly and obvious loving giraffe.
The giraffe, named Gerry, is privately owned and was noticed to be chewing abnormally; his owner called Joren Whitley, who often treats animal patients. Whitley has been a chiropractor since 2016 and is licensed both with Oklahoma’s veterinary and chiropractic boards.
According to the Washington Post, Whitley liked working on horses early in his career, and then started to work on dogs, cats and farm animals because there was a need and not many chiropractors were doing that. He recalls working with zebras, lions, buffalo, bears and even skunks. Other veterinarians often recommend Whitley when they feel the animal could benefit from an adjustment.
So let’s get back to Gerry. Whitley treated the giraffe on April 16 and could be seen feeling his jaw and moving it from side to side.
i noticed that his jaw had more range of motion to one side than the other side, I facilitated that movement with an adjustment, and then i went and i checked his cervical spine. When I found areas that didn’t move very well, i put a little bit of motion into it.
Whitley as told to USA Today
And as Gerry started to feel better, the giraffe moved closer and seemed to want to hug and be hugged. Maybe he was just thanking the doc for helping him feel better and wanted to be loved?
Needless to say, Gerry and the kind doctor sent the internet swooning, and the adorable thought of “giraffe kisses” just prompted the cutest comments and huggable memos.
Whitley is proud to share information, and even though some veterinarians are against animal chiropractors, many animals have been able to regain the use of their legs, help with jumping or moving certain ways and help to encourage better health.
