In Memphis, Tennessee, the Streetdog Foundation received a call from one of the organization’s volunteers asking for help. On Saturday morning, the animal foster parent rushed outside when she saw her neighbor’s house on fire.
Moments later, a fireman walked up to her, carrying a puppy in his arms. The volunteer offered to help and took the puppy. While outside and still paying attention to the fire department dousing out the flames from her neighbor’s home, the woman holding the puppy, noticed a German shepherd, obviously still nursing, walking around and appearing very distressed and worried – most likely looking for her baby.
The volunteer was able to lure the mother dog into her yard where it was safe, and happily the mom and her baby quickly relaxed. It is believed the two dogs had been in the nearby woods when the fire broke out, and somehow became separated with all of the commotion going on as fire trucks arrived and the hoses started shooting water at the flames.
Once it was confirmed there were no other puppies, the two were examined and deemed fine.
We named them Kanga and Roo, ater the adorable mom and son duo from Winnie the pooh. kanga is still a baby herself at just 16 months old, and she is heartworm positive.

Kanga is very sweet and friendly. Her puppy, Roo is spunky but sweet and is estimated to be about six to eight weeks of age. He is beginning to be weaned away from his mother. Both are looking for their own foster or forever homes.
