At the South East Animal Control Authority (SEAACA), an 18-year-old poodle mix weighing only 5.2 pounds arrived as a stray late last week. To see her at the shelter had been nothing less than heartbreaking.
Volunteers and animal rescuers immediately started to share Ivy’s story on social media because it didn’t matter how much longer she might have to live; it was all about a treasured life, and the quality of time and the care she deserves for the time she has left.
The shelter notes described her as follows:
Shelter stated :
5.2 lbs., 18 yrs., pre-sterile, able to pet and handle, ataxic (stumbles when walking, appears to only have 2 teeth (mandibular K-9’s), severe generalized matting (shaved), emaciated (very little body mass)
Ivy’s plight went out across social media, and on Saturday, she was welcomed into Maltese Rescue California. She was groomed at the shelter, and is now comfortably settled and reported to be eating and drinking well. She is scheduled for a full veterinarian exam.
