Dog mistakenly euthanized at California shelter just one hour before woman arrived to adopt him

In Los Angeles, California, a woman who had been scheduled to adopt a dog from a local shelter that had been homeless for more than a year, was devastated after the dog was mistakenly euthanized. It had been on June 11, when Jianna Maarten Sadda was ready to pick up the sweet pit bull mix named Sheba at 3:00, but when she called the shelter at 2:00 to inform them of her arrival, she was told Sheba was dead.

Sadda was left devastated and in shock. She had so wanted to give Sheba, who had spent half her doggy life at the shelter, the best life ever. Sheba had been up for adoption for more than a year.

According to DogTime, Sheba was euthanized an hour before, and was told regrettably there had been a miscommunication with the staff by Los Angeles Animal Services.

And to make the death of Sheba even more tragic, the dog had not been on the original list to be euthanized because she didn’t have any behavior or attitude issues; why everyone loved Sheba. She was a fun and kind two-year-old mixed breed who had been continually passed over while on the adoption floor.

Time limits at the overcrowded shelters for dogs have recently changed, and part of the new policy at the Los Angeles Animal Services gives dogs only a 72-hour time limit before being killed if an approved rescue organization doesn’t come forward.

Sadly, not everyone knew about the shelter’s new policy. Rest in peace Sheba. We are so sorry humans let you down.
