When Irish eyes are smiling: 6 puppies abandoned on side of road spotted by kind bus driver

The pouring rain in St. Louis had finally stopped, and the sun finally began to peak through another chilly day on Thursday, when a bus driver called Stray Rescue of St. Louis to report having spotted six young puppies out by the side of the road.

I see 6 young puppies out here by the road; they need help.

Chief life-saving officer Donna Lochman, along with dedicated volunteers, hurried out to the location, and there they saw four puppies who were absolutely miserable; their weak and painful little grunts were heartbreaking. How anyone could have abandoned these defenseless little ones and then turned around and walked away is untenable. The puppies were freezing cold, soaked in urine, missing hair from ringworm and very hungry and thirsty. But wait – rescuers only found four puppies; the bus driver reported seeing six little ones. Where were the other two?

Not a group of rescuers to ever give up, it wasn’t too long before they found the last two who had wandered away a bit and sadly found themselves stuck in the weeds amid the trash. Using the thermal camera, the rescuers were confident they had found all of the orphaned and abandoned puppies.

The puppies were all loaded into the jeep; the heater blowing warm air as the puppies cuddled together closer to the warmth of each other. The tiniest and coldest puppy sat on her rescuer’s lap after she was wrapped in blankets and rubbed during her freedom ride.

With Friday being St. Patrick’s Day, these six tiny warriors have been blessed with the coolest names:

With tomorrow being St. Patrick’s Day, we named them lucky Irish names. They are so lucky the bus driver saw them or their fate would have been so tragic.

Meet O’Brien, O’Keefe, O’Neil, O’Hara, O’Mara, and O’Reily.
