‘Fire breathing demon dog’ Ralphie is almost finished with his intensive training and …

At the Niagara SPCA in Niagara Falls, New York, Ralphie waited quite awhile for a home. The 26-pound black and white adorable pooch is still pretty darn adorable, but there was more to this little guy than met the eye.

AT FIRST GLANCE, HE’S AN ADORABLE HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER, YOUNG DOG. PEOPLE SHOULD BE BANGING DOWN OUR DOORS FOR HIM. WE PROMISE YOU THAT WON’T BE THE CASE. RALPHIE IS A TERROR IN A SOMEWHAT SMALL PACKAGE.

After his description as a “fire breathing demon dog” circulated social media, the perfect adopter who seemed to understand Ralphie’s behavioral oddities, came forward. They hit it off, and the adopter had fallen madly in love. Two weeks later, Ralphie proved to be more than she could handle, and Ralphie returned to the shelter.

So what’s a rescue organization to do? Ralphie proved to be too much for an adopter – even a person who was sure she could overcome the ornery little guy’s bad behavior and turn him into the loving companion she had dreamed.

And then Ralphie was enrolled in Your Everyday K9 Dog Training Program. In one part of the dog’s training, Ralphie learned impulse control when his trainer used a vacuum cleaner and a broom while Ralphie stayed on his mat. Ralphie remains very treat motivated and was repeatedly rewarded for his patient behavior with a treat, and then of course he was free to leave the mat.

On Tuesday, and as the final week of Ralphie’s training approaches, ( a week ahead of schedule) the rescue organization sent out an update on their social media page. They asked Chris at YourEveryDayK9 to provide this fun video.
