Little calf has taken up residence in doghouse at neighborhood backyard

In Arapahoe County, Colorado, a young calf has taken up residence in a doghouse in the backyard of a homeowner’s residence.

According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, Deputy Ferguson responded to a call to assist Arapahoe County Animal Services when she found a baby calf in the backyard of a home in a residential neighborhood near E. Smoky Hill Rd. and S. Himalaya St.

It seems a cow had given birth to the calf at the homeowner’s ranch in Douglas County, however the cow had not been able to produce enough milk to nurse her baby, and the rancher decided to bring the baby back to his home to nurse it back to health.

Livestock is not allowed in residential neighborhoods, but authorities decided not to cite the owner since the priority here was to nurse the baby calf back to health and return him to the farm.

We’re happy to report, the calf — who has taken up residence in the dog house — is almost at his ideal weight and well-nourished. His name is Benjamin and he’ll be reunited with his mama in just a few weeks!
