A Los Angeles man was arrested this week and charged with animal cruelty for allegedly tossing a two-month-old puppy in a crate over a fence and into the Tujunga Wash.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the disturbing act was recorded on a home security camera, and quickly went viral on social media. Neighbors joined together to help rescue the puppy and find the man responsible for the despicable act.
The video showed a man getting out of a Chevy Tahoe near Renaissance Drive and Cardamine Court, open the tailgate and toss a small cage with a puppy inside of it over the fence. The man then sped away; a concerned citizen who witnessed the act, hurried over to rescue the puppy.
The rescuer jumped over the fence and as he tried to get to the puppy, slipped, but that didn’t stop him from continuing to save the defenseless dog. Fortunately, two other men had seen the rescuer struggling and ran over to help.
The puppy was rushed to the Los Angeles Animal Services where a physical examination revealed “several injuries that doctors noted were most likely due to the fall from being thrown inside the crate.” The two-month-old female, mixed breed puppy has been named Raisin. She is almost ready to be adopted
Daniel Arias, 25, has since been arrested and charged with animal cruelty; his bail has been set at $20,000.
