Dying man wants to find his beloved dog new home before he passes away

In Plainville, Massachusetts, a man is hoping to find a wonderful home for his beloved dog and best friend of ten years before he dies. David Fine, diagnosed with terminal cancer just months ago, wants to make sure his Sharpei/Boxer blend named Babs, has the best home.

According to Wabi5News, Fine adopted Babs as a puppy after she didn’t work out at two homes previous to him becoming the dog’s “dad.”

I had told myself i was never going to get another pet because it breaks my heart to lose them. Fortunately, she’s going to outlive me this time.

David retired in 2020, and his dream was to travel across the country and visit the national parks. He adored his trips with Babs, and one of the highlights of his trip had been visiting Mount Rushmore. Unfortunately, as he left for Yellowstone National Park, he started to feel ill. It wasn’t long before he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

When Fine was younger, he had undergone treatment for leukemia and later was diagnosed with vascular disease. Last August, he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and given only six months to live. He decided against treatment and stated the chemotherapy would make him too sick, and the treatment would not extend his life significantly longer.

So instead, Fine has been making it his mission to find Babs a suitable home before he has to go into hospice care. His family can not care for her since Babs has to be the only pet, and Fine stated he has never been married or had any children.

So far, Fine has posted ads in local papers and now has been turning to social media for help. She will need a home where she is the only pet, and there are no small children. She is housetrained and very well mannered he says.

Babs is definitely the most important part of his life, and he wants the best for her.

…My fate is sealed, but hers is not. I have to make sure she gets as many good years out of the rest of her life as i can.

Then i can rest in peace when the time comes, but i’m not ready to go yet.
