In Charlotte County, Florida, a tiny puppy was rescued on Wednesday afternoon from a hot car after someone noticed the puppy had been left alone and locked inside.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, DFC Fraser arrived at the Port Charlotte Town Center Mall parking lot and observed the puppy “panting and lethargic.”
The side window of the vehicle had been slightly cracked, and the officer was able to open the door and remove the puppy. The officer brought the pup to his air-conditioned patrol vehicle and gave her some water. Numerous attempts to contact the puppy’s owner were unsuccessful, so the pup was turned over to Animal Control.
The next morning the owner picked up the puppy and was cited for animal cruelty.
We did not have enough evidence to confiscate and keep the dog or petition a court for custody because there was no long-term distress on the animal whatsoever.

Never leave animals (or loved ones) in a hot vehicle for extended periods of time. Temperatures inside the vehicle quickly become too dangerous for anyone inside.
