Heartbroken moments as young dog remained hunched over staring at the ground

At the Fulton County Animal Services in Georgia, a shelter volunteer shared her heartbreaking moments during her shift involving a young dog named Orca.

While all the surrounding dogs jump and bark in excitement when people walk by, Orca remained hunched over staring at the ground looking forlorn.

As Katie approached Orca’s shelter kennel, he slowly turned around and gave her the “saddest puppy dog eyes” but did not stand up to greet her. He likely didn’t believe she was there to help him. And the moment she walked away, Orca was back to staring at the ground so obviously depressed.

As Katie and the other volunteers let him out of his kennel, they noticed he was underweight, but here’s the positive part of this report about Orca. Once out of the kennel, he was a different pup – very much like the happy dog who first entered the shelter when he thought there was hope.

He was very excited to get to go outside and for human attention. He was friendly to everyone he met on his walk.

Orca’s back story is not known, but he is listed as one-and-a-half-years of age and weighs 39 pounds.

Latest update on Orca:

Update 5/21 at 1:30 PM: Orca is still at the shelter and was dog tested by staff! Here are the notes from the dog test:

“We have done some dog testing with him with both male and female dogs and he has done well with both. He is a little on the shy side so slow intros would be nice and maybe a dog that’s a little lower energy. But overall has enjoyed other dogs while in our care.”

Please share Orca’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.

It has been noted that the Fulton County Animal Services needs to get at least 20 dogs out by 7:00 p.m. tonight. If sweet Orca has touched you, please come meet him and the other dogs and help! Fostering is free and all supplies provided. Jupiter, Bailey and Snow are three other dogs who have good home notes from temp fosters and desperately need out of the shelter! Please continue to spread the word.
