Nobody wants Butter, and although this sweetheart might not understand all the words, by the look on his face, he realizes that hope for the home he’s been dreaming about for the last 500 nights may never come to be.
In a viral clip on TikTok, posted by Julie Saracenno (@juliesaraceno2) the volunteer from the Benton-Franklin Humane Society located in Kennewick, Washington, the heartbreaking video has already garnered more than 135,000 views.
Let us introduce you to Butter, a three-year-old Labrador retriever blend who we meet lying on a blanket inside of his shelter enclosure. The dog has been the nervous type and being labeled with Black Dog Syndrome just gets him passed by much too often. In addition, Butter doesn’t much like sharing his space with other dogs, but he definitely loves sharing time with humans.
Observed by shelters and rescue groups across the world, BDS [black dog syndrome]is an issue negatively affecting the adoption rates of black pets.

When Butter first arrived at the shelter, he suffered from a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury which is a quite common orthopedic canine condition. His condition has improved, and the best home would be a one-level house that can work with him and provide him with moderate exercise and a comfortable soft bed. He may also be his best as an only dog, but that becomes a dog to dog test in order to keep all options open for this sweet guy.
Two days ago, Butter had a “meet and greet” with a family, and everyone, including Butter had paws and fingers crossed for a successful introduction and instant bonding, however the family decided Butter wasn’t the “right fit.”
