In Clearwater, Florida, police officers rescued a dog from the sweltering heat in a parked car, while her owner from Tennessee, allegedly went to the beach. The disturbing incident occurred on May 21.

According to the Clearwater Police Department, Facebook page, the incident occurred at the Pier 60 parking lot when the dog was reported barely moving in a hot car. The window had only been left slightly open, and witnesses reported the dog had been lying on her side struggling to breathe. The outdoor temperature that day registered at 89 degrees with an extremely high humidity level.

When police arrived, the vehicle was locked, and officers broke a window to reach the dog. She was barely responsive as they pulled him out of the car, and had been inside of the vehicle for 30 to 40 minutes. The parking meter had been paid for two hours.

The dog received emergency first aid and has since been taken to the Pinellas County Animal Control.

The owner, Marie Rutherford, from Nashville, has been charged with animal cruelty.

It’s nearly summer everyone – don’t even leave your pet unattended in a car for “just a few minutes.” Leave your pets at home.

Check out the rescue video. This sweet dog was very lucky. Many thanks to the officers who saved her life:
