Woman abandoned dog at airport parking lot she claimed was emotional support pet stopped by airline staff

At the Pittsburgh International Airport on Friday, a dog was found alone in a stroller by authorities at 5:30 a.m., according to a tweet by the Allegheny County Police Department.

At the terminal, the passenger was told she would need a crate for her dog in order to fly with it, even though the woman claimed the dog was her emotional support animal. Just hours later the woman abandoned the French bulldog “near short term parking and proceeded to board a flight.”

According to Sgt. Jason Donaldson, the woman had been going to a resort and pretended the dog was her emotional support pet, however airline staff were not convinced.

The seven-year-old dog was found in good health and is currently in the care of a local animal shelter. Charges are expected to be pressed under Pennsylvania law for abandoning a dog. If found guilty, the owner faces up to a $1,000 fine. The dog does have a microchip, however the owner had not responded.
