UPDATE: Lil Gus Gus’ life of misery after being shot in the head is over and our hearts are smiling

Admin

Lil Gus Gus, a barely two-year-old pup looked like an old man when saved by Stray Rescue of St. Louis just a few days ago. Thus far, his short life somewhere down south had been filled with suffering and misery; and then an unknown heartless monster shot him in the head.

When Gus arrived at SRSL, he was malnourished, covered in fleas, had infected skin, and his teeth had been filed down. He had no doubt been living a nightmare and had been unable to escape the pain. It also appeared a small caliber bullet had entered and exited through the skin on his head.

IT IS OFTEN THE SWEETEST, MOST TRUSTING DOGS THAT GET SHOT BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONES THAT WILL WALK RIGHT UP TO ANYONE.

THIS DOG.

AND HIS TEEF.

AND THE WAY THEY GET STUCK ON HIS LIP.

…WE ARE SMITTEN.

His x-rays showed a bullet fragment, however the veterinarian did not see any fracture. His other issues included sarcoptic mange, being malnourished, and flattened teeth. Maybe he tried to chew a chain off in order to be free? Fortunately, the bullet did not penetrate his skull, and even though a fragment is lodged in his head, it should not present any further issues.

And now for the good news! On Monday, Lil Gus Gus has been reported on his way to a recovery. According to his veterinarian, Dr. Schultz, this miracle pooch is out of the woods, and he’s been receiving some very special care. He is scheduled for several medicated baths for his skin disease as well as frequent dressing changes for the infection from the bullet wound on his head.

He remains on antibiotics and pain medications, but there is no doubt, this awesome young pup is smiling and wants to let everyone know how thankful and appreciative he is for all the help.

There is another step for Lil Gus Gus now, where everyone can help by sharing his story. This super dog needs a foster home; the shelter is full, and the clinic space must be kept open for new emergencies.

If you’re interested in fostering, email [email protected] and fill out: Strayrescue.org/foster.
