UPDATE: Adopted!
At the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter, a one-year-old dog named Doug is nearly out of time. One month ago, he entered the shelter as a stray, and today his life has been scheduled to end. Why? Sadly, Doug has not been coping well with shelter life and has been extremely scared and anxious.
Doug has been kept inside during his entire stay, so volunteers haven’t been able to work with him. We were able to meet him for the first time yesterday.

When volunteers met Doug, he was overwhelmed, nervous and tried to hide behind anything as he was walked through the kennel area. All he wanted to do was to disappear into the corners. When he would build up the courage to briefly venture out into the middle of the yard, he had second thoughts and ran back to try and hide in the corner again.
Doug was too nervous to play with any toys or even to take a treat, however he allowed the walker to pet him.
He’s been in playgroup once where he was described as gentle/dainty and tolerant. He became affiliative with playgroup handler, but panics with restraint.
Heartbreakingly, Doug is MEDICALLY ALERTED because of fear, anxiety, and stress. He is available for ADOPTION or RESCUE. Please help get this scared baby to safety before it’s too late. If you can be his miracle, contact South LA Shelter IMMEDIATELY!
