And our heroes for today? (Drumroll please!) Many thanks to the three Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) police officers in New York who rescued a frightened dog from underneath the train tracks earlier this month.
According to Officers Lewis, Dolce and Olivares, the scared pooch needed help when he was terrified to move from under the Metro-North train in Bronx. The officers had heard the call come in about a dog under the train at Morris Heights and quickly responded.
When the officers arrived, the conductor had the train doors opened and had been pointing towards the dog.
He ws kind of like curled up in a little ball, very scared. So you can just tell it was upsetting for him. he had no idea what was going on.

It was time for a plan, and these officers knew just what to do. First, they gained the dog’s interest and a bit of trust by offering him food; with Officer Olivares giving the dog his own lunch! Come on – when you give up your lunch to save a pup, you are truly a dog lover and of course, a hero. And by the way, lunch was chicken and turkey mixed with pasta.
It was Officer Dolce who crawled under the train, fed the dog and carefully coaxed the pup out with his best high pitched voice out, after gently grabbing his collar.
Now for the best part – I know – saving it to last so you have to read the entire article. When the officers were able to get the dog out, he was happy and playful, and even though the men could tell it had been a daunting experience for the pup, he made it out fine and healthy.
“A new leash on life” for one lucky pup!
