Navy sailor trying to rescue puppy left in Middle East and bring her home to U.S.

Admin

United States Navy Sailor Joy recently completed her fourth overseas deployment, but left a very special friend behind; Koda, a pup she rescued and bonded with remains in the dangerous area and could be killed at anytime.

According to Paws of War, a New York based non profit organization, Sailor Joy reached out for help to save Koda who is now family. She wants to bring the puppy to safety in the United States where she can have a future – loved, and protected by her hero’s side.

Koda and I bonded as soon we met. She was just trying to survive and my heart broke at how tiny and scared she was, She needed someone to care about her and I did everything I could to let her know she could trust me.

There is nothing here for animals. No food, no veterinary care, no one to protect Koda and I have witnessed so much suffering here I can’t even imagine leaving her alone – she is my little comrade and you can’t leave a comrade behind.

While stationed in the Middle East, Joy had been working the night shift when she spotted two stray puppies. Their mother was no where to be found. Just days later, the other puppy had been killed; Koda was the only survivor, however he was weak and tired from the heat. She cared for the puppy and helped her get well; the two bonded immediately.

As Joy’s tour ended and she was headed back to Florida, she felt anxious leaving the dog behind and reached out to Paws of War for help. Relocating a dog from overseas requires a massive amount of red tape which includes veterinary expenses as well as flight fees; the entire process requires funding, patience and knowledge of the complicated procedures.

It would mean the world to me to get her to America, she has been such a blessing in my life and I just want for her to come on walks, runs, hikes and all sorts of other adventures with me. I want her to experience all the little things that will be big things to her, like grass, rivers, mountains and the ocean. She would be entering a whole new world of possibilities and freedom.
