In the area of Nederland, Texas, a husky was found curled up in the mud on what was likely to be the awful place where she soon would die. How many people just walked by her and ignored her silent plea for help? How long had she been there quietly suffering?
Luckily, she was still breathing; Hoardin’ Huskies immediately stepped forward to help and the nearly lifeless dog was rushed to Neighborhood Vet Centers for life saving treatment.
Meet Luna:
Luna definitely has the “fight for life” within her emaciated body and her defeated soul. She has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, and although it can not be cured, her condition can be managed. A full body scan has eliminated cancer, however she continues to have a problem with regurgitation of liquids and solids. Her veterinarian is currently running tests to determine if she is suffering from Myasthenia Gravis (Grave Muscle Weakness) The condition is also treatable.
Luna’s prognosis remains unclear, as her caregivers wait for more test results. A change in the color of her urine from the first day she arrived at the hospital until now shows her body is heading in the right direction and fighting infections, but she is nowhere near normal at this point.
Remember Luna has been on IV fluids since the day she was brought in. She is still being fed through a tube, but she is anxious to eat normal just not there yet.
Facebook update
The rescue organization has known from the beginning this was going to be a slow recovery; it is believed she has been starved almost to death for up to a year. Luna is one of the worst cases of malnourishment rescuers have ever seen. All her fur only gives an illusion to her actual size. She only weighed around 28-29 pounds when admitted to NVC.
Luna is truly one of the sweetest huskies, and she deserves everything good coming her way once she has recovered.
This day to day care is expensive and would not be possible without support. Her recovery, is thanks to everyone following this incredibly brave dog’s story. Donations are still needed and appreciated.
We will continue to follow Luna’s fight for her life.
