An eight-year-old senior dog abandoned by his former owner when he moved away, celebrated a heartbreaking milestone at the Tennessee shelter where he currently resides. In April 2023, animal protection officers from the McKamey Animal Center in Chattanooga, rescued Red. Since then, he’s been patiently waiting for a home where he can spend the rest of his life being spoiled and loved.
It was just a few weeks ago when the shelter staff and volunteers celebrated Red’s “shelter birthday.” And although Red doesn’t talk – we all know his only wish is to be ADOPTED. It has been almost 400 days since Red arrived, and even though he is eight years old, this boy has lots of energy and spirit.
So let’s learn more about this adorable guy who hasn’t given up hope; nope, not Red. This wonderful pooch remains positive and continues to place his right paw forward. He loves to play and will search out squeaky toys in the play yard, but no worries-it there is a jolly ball or rope toy in the area, that’s fun too, and as long as he can run around and chase toys, life is fun again.
And then after the energetic workout of the afternoon, he’s ready to snuggle on the couch and watch television; you choose the show.
Red is a wonderful, rough and tumble kind of guy! He plays with full bodied activity and will provide loads of entertainment for himself and some lucky family! He is affectionate but not needy. He absolutely loves playing with toys! (Just know that as much as he loves soft toys – he loves to also take them apart piece by piece. Tough toys (especially the ones with Squeaks) will be a wise investment!
Red is an extremely sweet and social adult male. He is energetic and jumpy and for this reason recommend kids 8 and older as he may bowl over younger children. Red loves other dogs and is very social! This boy is looking for an active home where he can live life to the fullest.

In 2018, the ASPCA found that “the decision to adopt an older animal can also take on lifesaving importance because they are usually the last to be adopted—senior dogs, for example, have a 25% adoption rate, compared to the 60% adoption rate of younger dogs and puppies.”
