Her name is Mama, and she is one of the forgotten dogs. She is six-years-old and weighs 48 pounds; no doubt she is one of the staff favorites, but the shelter is so crowded, Mama doesn’t get the attention from would-be adopters; and now she has been placed on the euthanasia list at the Medley shelter.
The Miami-Dade Animal Services is now housing nearly 700 dogs, with a shelter capacity of 400. Because of this overcrowding, at least 150 dogs have been moved to an off-site facility at the Medley shelter which is less than ideal. Overcrowding has been putting immense strain on resources, volunteers and staff – sadly it is these innocent animals who are the innocent victims of budget restraints.
Mama (#A256024) is currently receiving heartworm treatment, but that doesn’t seem to be making much of a difference. She is still scheduled for euthanasia soon. Her videos reflect how loving and friendly she is with people.
Unfortunately, there has not been any information shared as to how she gets along with other dogs or cats. We respectfully ask that anyone interested in saving the life of this beautiful dog to call the shelter and ask for information. Follow her plight on Facebook here. Animals shelters across the country are overcrowded; none more so than the ones Miami. If you can, and are in a position to help PLEASE adopt and foster from your local shelter.
Consider starting at @adoptmiamipets who has so many more dogs than they were built to house. Summer is the hardest time at any shelter, and every person that offers to help can make a difference.
One act of kindness can change a life, and no one will show you their appreciation more than a dog.
