Dogs who became best friends while in shelter have been adopted together

Admin

At the Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter in New Jersey, Monday was a day to celebrate. With paws in the air and howls all around, TWO dogs, Zeus and Sadie were adopted, and just in time for the Holidays.

Now here’s the amazing part, and here’s also perfect proof to never give up! Although Zeus and Sadie are best friends and have found their forever home together, these two adorable pooches arrived at the shelter from different places and at different times. Zeus, the black and tan guy, had been in numerous homes after his owner had been deployed in the military. The poor pup was very confused as he was moved from one place to another, but after arriving at the shelter, he was able to leave his past behind to become one happy and confident dog.

Then there was Sadie, and no one knows her background. The sweet brindle and white girl was found as a stray in Newark, and when she arrived, she was scared of everything. Fortunately, she did love people and other dogs; it was just people and her surroundings that left her insecure, so the staff decided Sadie needed another dog to lean on and give her the confidence she needed.

And now Zeus and Sadie ( now renamed Athena) have gone off to a new home to begin their new life adventures with lots of love and stability.

This is from their new family:

Zeus and Athena became fast friends. They play constantly and even have taken to napping together (despite having separate dog beds, they are often found sharing one bed). Athena is adjusting very well and really starting to come out of her shell. Rather than cowering when a human approaches, she is increasingly seeking to be pet or cuddled and even going so far as to sleep with me in bed for the first time last night. She still has her moments where she’s scared and her brother, Zeus, is right there to comfort and protect her.

For example, the other day Athena was startled by the sounds of the printer and Zeus tried to kill the printer (don’t worry I intervened and no printers were harmed in the making of this memory:)). Thank you again for helping us make this perfect match with these two wonderful dogs. They are both so much happier having each other and living with their loving forever family.”

Congratulations to Zeus and Sadie-Athena, and their new family. We have numerous stories about bonded dogs; some were brought to the shelter together and others formed their tight bonds while at the shelter, but nevertheless, we are always so happy when best friends are able to be adopted together.
