RESCUED!
Molly is nine-months-old, but she had never been out doors, never walked on a leash nor has she ever had a toy. For her entire short life she lived within the confines of four walls; she had been friends with the family’s 14-year-old child and the cat.
On December 13, Molly (#188262) was surrendered to the Manhattan division of New York City Animal Care Centers because the husband no longer wanted the dog and stated they could no longer care for her.
molly has never been out of the house, not to go to the bathroom and not to enjoy exploring the world. She’s been kept in between 4 walls, and that is all she’s ever known.
Previous owner information
When the shelter staff asked the owner how they got Molly, the woman said her brother had left the dog with her and never returned.
While Molly lived with her family, she was playful, however no one showed her much affection, and she never had a toy. And now at the shelter, she trembles and shakes, pancakes to the floor and has to be carried.
This puppy will need puppy training; no one has ever given her a moment of their time. She will need an experienced person to help her come out of her shell.
Shelter notes:
What my friends at the ACC say about me:
I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let’s brush up on some canine body language together! I am really treat motivated. You can use treats to teach me new things! I will need daily physical activity to keep me healthy and happy! I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.
INTAKE DATE: 13-Dec-2023
MOLLY, ID#188262, 9 Mos. old, 27 lbs., Female
Manhattan ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, Tan / White
Shelter Assessment Rating: LEVEL 4
No Children (under Age 13)
Medical Behavior Rating: 2. BLUE
INTAKE NOTES – DATE OF INTAKE: 13-Dec-2023
“Upon intake, Molly was extremely tense and fearful. She was brought in a rolling grocery bag and had urinated and defecated on herself in the bag. She would not come out for toys or treats. I gently tipped the bag and Molly’s owner assisted in getting her out. Once out of the bag, Molly stood tense in the middle of the room, trembling. She briefly sniffed around her curiously and would occasionally take a few steps, but remained tense, trembling, with her ears pinned back and pupils dilated. She remained uninterested in treats and toys, even when presented with high value treats. Molly allowed us to place a leash on her and pick her up with a towel, but stayed tense throughout. Did not collar/scan due to fearfulness.”
Molly needs to get out of the shelter. Her previous owner reported she was shy, but was playful with the 14-year-old child in the home. She also liked the cat.
