In Tacoma, Washington, when the excitement of Christmas Eve looms huge in so many homes, somehow the stark comparison of a shivering, abandoned, hypothermic and emaciated dog curled up on a family’s front porch brings us all to tears.
According to the Humane Society of Tacoma & Pierce County, it had been local residents who found the dog lying on the front porch of a neighbor’s home on Christmas Eve. The poor guy was not only emaciated and hypothermic, but he also had painful and infected wounds.
I was trying to say hi to him and he didn’t even react. I knew I needed to get him care before he froze to death.”
Thomas was rushed to the shelter where he was wrapped in heating blankets, administered IV fluids and treated for painful pressure wounds and injuries on his hips and paws. He was barely even able to lift his head and had to be helped to stand while he urinated.
Thomas’ prognosis is uncertain. He’ll need frequent bandage changes, continued medication and further diagnostic testing to ensure he remains stable. This care is expensive and donations are needed.
According to the rescue organization the latest update states that “Thomas is currently stable in a foster home where he continues to receive veterinary care from our team.”
