A Moment of Fate: Eddy’s Plight in the Bayou
Some people are destined to be in the right place at the right time for a reason, and Eddy would undoubtedly agree with this sentiment if he could express himself in words!
Unfortunately, all he can convey is a heartwarming gaze and an enthusiastic wag of his tail, but that’s likely sufficient to confirm his incredible story! This vulnerable little pup was desperately struggling to stay afloat in a drainage ditch, often referred to as a bayou in Houston, Texas.
He was clinging precariously to a clump of reeds and shivering uncontrollably until a kind-hearted passerby finally noticed his distress.
A Near-Death Experience: Fighting for Survival
Eddy’s circumstances had been dire. No one knows how this stray Shih Tzu ended up in the bayou in the first place, but it was clear that he was unable to escape on his own.
Instead, he was desperately holding onto the reeds he found amidst the rushing water, clinging to the hope that his ordeal would soon end. Eddy was shivering from the cold water, utterly alone and on the verge of drowning.
Fortunately, a heroic woman spotted him and immediately sprang into action to save him.
“A rainstorm was coming, and the ditch soon filled with fast-moving water. Velvin Alvarado saw where he was and rescued the little guy from the water. He was very scared and traumatized,” Erin, Eddy’s initial foster caregiver, shared on Facebook, describing the perilous situation.
Without hesitation, she waded into the water and, just moments later, pulled Eddy to safety. After bringing him to dry land, Velvin sought assistance through her social media channels.
A Path to Recovery: Finding Refuge and Trust
Eventually, this frightened pup found sanctuary with the compassionate team at CAMO Rescue in Houston, Texas. He spent his initial days with Erin and her family, who later transferred him to another foster home for ongoing care.
In the beginning, Eddy was understandably reserved and wary of everyone due to the trauma he had endured. He would growl and hide from people until he gradually came to realize that he was finally safe and no longer in danger.
Over the following weeks, he slowly emerged from his shell and began to develop trust in his caregivers.
Eddy gradually adapted to his new surroundings, embracing a new life filled with kindness and security, something he had been desperately seeking.
A Promising Future: Seeking a Loving Family
Eddy is undoubtedly a wonderful companion, and all he needs is to find owners who will understand his past experiences and provide him with the unwavering love and care he deserves.
He would thrive in a home with adults where he won’t feel overwhelmed or intimidated. And yes, he’s definitely a social butterfly, meaning Eddy would be a fantastic companion for leisurely walks!
“He has been around older kids and loves them. He is crate trained and goes outside eagerly,” CAMO Rescue shared, highlighting his positive attributes.
Eddy’s preferred meals consist of scrambled eggs and a vegetable mix, combined with kibble. After his meals, he loves to socialize with other dogs and cuddle with his human companions, making him a well-rounded and affectionate pup.
“He is not fond of kibble, but mixed with scrambled eggs or a meat/rice/vegetable mix, he eats well. He was very thin when we got him. He gets along with other dogs. He is ready for a forever home. He just loves to lie close by and to be loved,” the Texas rescue organization concluded, emphasizing his desire for companionship.
Currently, Eddy is undergoing treatment for various health issues, including a urinary tract infection, bacterial infection, and intestinal worms. Following his neutering surgery, Eddy will be fully ready to meet his prospective forever family.
