Handsome husky dumped at NYC shelter with age old ‘allergy excuse’ and now he dies

Admin

His name is Tokio, and this handsome husky is beginning the 2024 New Year with a death sentence. Tokio was dumped at Manhattan’s location for the New York City Animal Care Centers. Less than a week after Christmas, this three-year-old had been leash led into the shelter; a family member suddenly developed serious allergies.

And so, with no regard for what might happen to a surrendered dog in an overcrowded animal shelter, Tokio’s family turned their backs on this sweet dog and left. They did report he was outgoing and friendly towards other dogs, kids and strangers. He has no record of biting anyone and has no guarding issues with his food or toys. He was reported to be very sweet and playful.

He is a smart boy, so he knows many tricks and he’s eager to learn more. Volunteers state he also loves tuna and cheese. He was said to be social with staff. Tokio needs emergency placement due to behavior concerns. He has been displaying kennel stress and has been noted flipping his water bucket and spinning in his kennel. Medically he is healthy, but he loves exercise and loves to be active. Who wouldn’t be going stir crazy in a little prison?

For Tokio’s success, the shelter suggests the following:

I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.

I would do best in a home with only adult humans.

I’m ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me.

I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let’s brush up on some canine body language together!
