It had been a group of compassionate animal advocates early on Saturday who acted quickly to pull an abandoned Great Pyrenees out from underneath a shed after he had been shot by an arrow. Sadly, the person responsible for shooting this shy dog had been a teenager who told authorities he was afraid the dog would try to mate with his female dog who had been in heat. The teen claimed the dog had been on his property, and therefore he was legally allowed to shoot.
The severely injured dog had hidden under a shed and had endured the freezing temperatures all night.
Neither the teen nor his family are licensed breeders, and this cruel act reinforces responsible pet ownership which includes both spaying and neutering of pets. The dog had been abandoned by his family when they moved, and he had been roaming the neighborhood looking for his family and for food.
Dallas Dog – Rescue.Rehab.Reform stepped forward; with one of the staff traveling two hours to render the help needed for this dog. He has been named Marvel , and during the rescue, part of the arrow broke off. He was quickly transported to an emergency veterinarian and had already suffered a significant blood loss.
The medical team were able to conclude the arrow had not hit any vital organs. It entered through the dog’s scapula and exited the other side, leaving behind a tubular wound that required immediate surgery; his surgical repair is now healing with drain tubes after the closure of the wound.
Marvel continues to receive top-notch medical care and is receiving fluids, antibiotics and pain medication. He will be examined by an orthopedic specialist to determine if he will need more specialized care. This amazing dog, thus the name Marvel, is brave and resilient and has captured the hearts of his rescuers and everyone reading about his scary experience.
The local sheriff’s office did not take immediate action, and the rescue organization is determined to seek justice for Marvel, however the current justice system does not favor his case.
…the evidence does not support the shooter’s claim that Marvel was shot on their propery. The trail of events suggest otherwise, as Marvel was not in any immediate danger when the arrow was fired. The area is known for roaming dogs, which adds further to this situation.
We will continue to update Marvel’s condition and this poor boy’s incredible journey to safety.
Please donate and share to help Marvel get the care he needs and deserves.
