Kari, a five-year-old golden retriever, had spent most of his life in the animal shelter. Day after day, he watched as other dogs were adopted by loving families, their tails wagging with excitement. But Kari was always left behind. People seemed to prefer younger, more energetic dogs.
Today was Kari’s birthday, a day he had dreamed of celebrating in a forever home. As the day wore on, Kari’s hopes began to dwindle. He watched as visitors came and went, their eyes scanning the kennels. But no one seemed interested in him.
Just as Kari was about to give up hope, he heard a familiar voice calling his name. He looked up and saw Sarah, a volunteer at the shelter, approaching with a big smile on her face.
