In mid-January, in Kansas City, Missouri, a young dog that had been abandoned in a garage in sub-freezing temperatures was discovered by Good Samaritans who contacted the Kansas City Pet Project for help. The dog had been suffering from severe hypothermia and was unresponsive. Was he going to die?
The dog had been found cuddled up to another dog, but tragically the other dog had died by the time animal service officers arrived. Although the surviving dog was unresponsive, he had a heartbeat, and that was enough to try and give him a chance. They wrapped him in blankets, put slippers on his feet and used a hairdryer to slowly bring up his body temperature.
little by little we started to see signs of life. From slightly blinking his eyes, to making eye contact with one of our vets as she spoke words of encouragement to him… he was showing us that he was ready and willing to fight.
