Senior Chihuahua dumped at shelter because she wanted to sleep in bed with owners hits the lottery with the best home ever

Admin

It had to have been an excruciating and emotional separation for a tiny senior Chihuahua named Twinkle; who only wanted to cuddle and sleep in bed with her owners, but instead wound up back at an animal shelter.

At the True and Faithful Pet Rescue in Venice, Florida, a sweet senior who hadn’t had the easiest life in the past had to face another heartbreaking challenge. It seemed the family who adopted Twinkle just four months prior, returned her to the shelter because Twinkle wanted to sleep in their bed.

Twinkle, weighing only 3 1/2 pounds, had originally been found wandering the streets of Miami. She was spayed at the shelter, and they left a few mammary tumors. Her mouth was terrible, she had such terrible skin and barely any fur. It had been a happy day when she was rescued by True and Faithful Pet Rescue and then later adopted; everyone thought she had found her “furever” home.

Sadly, that didn’t work out, and there she was again; a senior pooch needing a home where she could be loved.

That was Twinkle’s life in the past, but this adorable peanut-sized pooch genuinely hit the doggy lottery! Here’s her video and a little bit about her new life. Check out her short clip posted by Haley Harrett via her TikTok page; filled with happy news.

Needless to say, the video went viral, and if we had our way, it would be posted even more often. We never tire of good news!

Twinkle’s amazing new parents drove all the way from South Carolina to Florida to rescue her, and this feisty little pooch gets to have new friends along with the privilege of sleeping with her humans. We even got to meet a new friend Zoey.

Many senior dogs were once cherished family members, that had been companions to elderly people who had either passed away or had to move to an assisted living facility where pets are not allowed.

Too often, the family members won’t take the dog, or there is no family around to assume the responsibility for the pet. Other senior dogs are dumped at shelters with no explanation or downright silly excuses. (See above story’s headline). Sadly, very few seniors make it to senior rescue organizations, and these precious lives are lost because no one even knows about them.

Yes, dogs feel abandoned when they are turned over to shelters. Dogs grieve, dogs miss their homes and their owners – too often even the mean ones. They count on us; please stay the course.

Many thanks to everyone who cares about our senior pets.
