Poor Vero; her story brings tears to our eyes, but with your help this sweet dog dumped at a Caloosa, Florida animal shelter within 24 hours of having been adopted, can find a new home where she will never be dumped again.

Three years ago, Vero had been brought in as an owner surrender to Miami Dade Animal Services. At the time, she was three-years-old and had been the second longest resident at the shelter. She waited and waited for a family to notice her, and although she was sweet, cuddly and fun to play with, it seemed no one ever wanted to make her part of their family.

While Vero waited, she bonded with one of the volunteers. The two would spend time together, take long walks in the shade of the Miami scenic walkways, and Vero’s best human promised her that one day she would meet her very own family and live happily ever after. Finally, it happened! (or so we thought) Vero went home; everyone smiled as the sweet girl left the shelter – her tail wagging and her eyes looking the brightest they had ever been.

What happened? Vero was surrendered again to the Caloosa Humane Society in Labelle, Florida just 24 hours later! When the staff notified the Miami shelter that the dog had been surrendered again, hearts broke. This poor gal has spent nearly her entire life in shelters.

That same volunteer who had bonded with Vero was devastated and drove to the Caloosa shelter to see sweet Vero. The shelter staff said Vero has been depressed, but she was so happy to seem a familiar face.

her tail was wagging and the sadness in her eyes quickly changed to a gleam.

The volunteer spent the entire day with Vero and promised she would do whatever it took to find this sweet girl a new home. She begged her not to lose hope.

And with tears in her eyes, Vero’s only friend did let her know she has not been forgotten. A promise is a promise, and if everyone shares this dog’s heartbreaking story, we just know her new human will find her.

Vero does not need to be an only dog. She was non-reactive around dogs at Miami. All she needs are meet and greets along with slow introductions; just like ALL new dogs coming into a home.
