In St. Lucie County, Florida, Engine 1 crew of heroes responded to a call on Saturday, following the heavy rains and flooding, about a fox stuck in a storm drain. According to the St. Lucie County Fire District, the fox was close to drowning when rescuers arrived.
The fox had been trapped for an unknown amount of time, but by the number of scratch marks on the wall, the animal had been struggling unsuccessfully to climb out of drain for quite awhile.
Animal control was not available, but the fire crew had no intentions of letting the fox die, and while getting ready to hoist her out, they removed the grate and placed a ladder in the drain to provide the animal with a place to rest to keep her head out of the water.
After some effort the men were successfully able to pull the fox out to safety, and she quickly ran away. As she fled, a second fox emerged from the forest and the two reunited; the mate licking away some of the water on her mate’s dripping coat.
And the two disappeared, and we hope they live happily ever after.
