In Burke County, Georgia, two malnourished dogs were rescued on Friday – one of the dogs suffered from a deeply embedded chain. Deputies from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office arrested Lacristifa Weaver, 43, who faces felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges.
According to the True Citizen, the Sheriff’s Office responded to an alarm report at the 400 block of MLK Road in Keysville. When they arrived, there was no evidence of any forced entry. As the officers tried to make contact with the owner, they spotted a small brown dog chained to a tree by a tangled iron link chain. The dog was not able to reach either food or water. In addition, the chain was so embedded, the dog was unable to bark and his neck was severely infected.
On the other side of the yard, a small gray dog was also tethered by a chain. He had no food, water or shelter and his skin was also irritated by the chain.
Deputies contacted animal control who removed the dogs and have taken custody of the animals; the dogs will remain under their care.
