In Niagara Falls, New York, a man accused of cutting the ears of seven puppies has been charged with felony animal cruelty. Michael Anthony Paonessa, 45, also faces unlawful clipping of the dogs’ ears.
According to WgrzNews, Dog Control Officer David Bower stated the owner of the puppies asked Paonessa to clip the ears of the puppies – a popular “look” for pit bull type dogs and puppies. Paonessa is not qualified to perform surgical procedures or use anesthesia.
Apparently the owner of the puppies knew the accused and paid him $250 to clip all of the puppies. A veterinarian would have charged $350 per puppy. One of the puppies suffered from an infection, but is on the road to recovery.
The puppies are all with their owner. It is up to the Niagara County District Attorney if additional charges will be filed.
