‘Puppies’ abandoned in box turned out to be bear cubs

Admin

In Camden County, North Carolina, a box had been left on a resident’s front lawn. When the man came home one day late last month, he called Camden County Sheriff’s Office to report a box with two “puppies” wrapped in a blanket.

According to Channel10News, deputies were dispatched to the home and “upon arrival determined that the alleged ‘puppies’ were actually two very young bear cubs. The caller stated he had left his residence for a short time and discovered the animals upon his return.”

No one knows who left the cubs in the box, but the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission was called, and the cubs were taken to a local wildlife biologist. When discovered, they were believed to be less than three-weeks of age.

Mother bears are extremely protective of their babies, and it is not known what happened to her or why the cubs had been separated from their mother. Black bears are generally shy, non aggressive and avoid human contact.
