Eight buildings were swept into the sea after a powerful landslide happened in the Norwegian town of Alta on Wednesday. A local resident captured the moment when a dog managed to swim back to safety and was rescued.
According to Newsbrig, it is not certain if there were any human injuries or death, however none have yet to be reported. The half mile wide chunk of land being pushed into the ocean lasted for several hours. Amazingly, the dog survived both the landslide and the cold swim back to shore.
“The dog that was taken by the slide and swept into the sea, rescued itself, swam ashore and is alive,” Torfinn Halvari, a local policeman for the Finmark police stated.
The dog was rescued via a helicopter, and it is not known if his owners have shown up to claim him yet.
The town of Alta has a population of 15,000 inhabitants.
