Kangaroo ‘Brad Pit’ that fell 23 feet into mine shaft rescued

Admin

A kangaroo named “Brad Pit” that fell 23 feet down into an abandoned mine shaft was rescued in Drummond, Victoria in mid June. Five Freedoms Animal Rescue, with a team of volunteers, were able to bring him to the surface after having been darted with a tranquilizer.

According to the rescue organization, Manfred Zabinskas led the team and was able to descend into the shaft to assess the kangaroo’s health after the animal was tranquilized. The video shows the kangaroo looking up at the camera until the tranquilizer takes effect while volunteers gathered the necessary equipment. Zabinskas then climbs down into the pit, wraps the kangaroo in protective bags and attaches him to a rope to be pulled up to safety.

“He [Brad Pit] had been clawing at the walls with no escape, but thankfully didn’t appear to have been down there too long,” Zabinskas explained.

“He had swollen fett and need some time in care with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to get well enough for release.

Once Brad Pit was back on the ground, Zabinskas patted him on the head. He was cared for at the shelter until he recovered and then was set free.
